There are two most effective ways to reduce corrosion on the outer surface of pipes in the ground and in water, one is to apply a protective coating to the outer surface of the pipe fabrication, and the other is to add cathodic protection after the pipe is installed. Both methods are generally accepted in engineering applications and are supported by law in the United States. U.S. Federal Document OPS49CFR Part 192 clearly states that pipes constructed in the U.S. must be coated and cathodic protected. This regulation outlines the standards and requirements for cathodic protection and pipe coatings. A similar narrative is found in NACE Standard RP-01-69 "Recommended Methods for Controlling External Corrosion of Metal Pipes in Underground and Water."
Polyethylene adhesive tape has undergone extensive laboratory and field trials, coupled with worldwide applications, to prove that this pipe coating meets U.S. federal standards, NACE recommended methods, and other international plumbing industry standards. At present, in general, polyethylene adhesive tape is the second most widely used position in pipe coating, but polyethylene adhesive tape occupies the first position in on-site construction. Polyethylene adhesive tape has the following characteristics:
(1) Composed of thermoplastics, with excellent chemical stability, electrical properties, water resistance and physical properties;
(2) Matched with cathodic protection;
(3) The use method is simple, practical and efficient;
(4) In terms of material cost, construction cost, additional cathodic protection fee, etc., this adhesive tape is economical.
The earliest foreign companies in the world to manufacture and apply polyethylene tape are POLYKEN in the United States and ALTA in Italy. The introduction of polyethylene tape production line in China, and the automatic production of composite polyethylene anticorrosive tape are Ningbo Anda Anticorrosive Materials Co., Ltd. The production process equipment and raw material selection formula are the same as those of the world's famous tape production companies, the product performance has reached the international level of similar products, the quality indicators meet the standard requirements of the United States AWWA C214 and the national SY/T0414, and the domestic polyethylene tape has reached the same level as foreign products.
Polyethylene tape has the characteristics of cold-wound tape, convenient construction, no environmental pollution, excellent anti-corrosion performance, long service life, low comprehensive cost and other advantages. It has been widely used in the external anti-corrosion of steel pipelines in oil and gas, petrochemical industry, city gas, power water supply, metallurgical shipbuilding and other pipeline projects.
